Watch the new Referendum Video
A message from School Board Chairman Bill Rogotzke
Dear Parents and Community Members:
The people of Lamberton, Sanborn, Storden, and Jeffers are a passionate group and we at Red Rock Central are so proud to be able to serve students from these communities. Our November building bond ballot question was not approved despite receiving 52% of the vote. After the election we heard from many people who told us to fix the plan, and bring it back as soon as possible.
The board decided to move forward with a new plan as soon as the state will allow it. The Red Rock Central School Board will ask voters to consider a new bond referendum proposal on Feb. 9, 2021 to build a new preK-12 school. We made adjustments to the plan, we worked hand-in-hand with the Minnesota Department of Education, and we expected that the February referendum would require a simple majority of anything over 50%. Despite our efforts, the state has again given our project an unfavorable review. (updated Jan. 15)
The new proposal includes three questions:
Question 1: A 118,700 square foot pre-K-12 school.
Question 2: A wrestling room and gymnasium learning space.
Question 3: Decommission and demolish the existing school.
Our building provides us with a number of challenges. It doesn’t meet ADA requirements, provide safety and security, or meet the needs of today's teaching and learning environment.
An operating levy reduction was approved by more than 60% of voters during the November 2020 election, which will lower taxes for all properties in our district.
At the end of the day, our role is to provide a great education to our students, and we have done very well even though our current building holds us back. Our kids will have an even better opportunity for quality education with a new building and we’ll save operations costs on maintenance.
This website provides updates on the plan and a look into our needs.
